The young Inspector Julián Gianoglio is called to investigate a crime in the small town where he was born, Carmen del Sauce. It is the first time he has returned since his birth.

On his arrival, he finds the town shaken up by the murder of one of its oldest inhabitants.
As the mystery starts to unravel, the Inspector discovers that the prime suspect has disappeared and that his name is also Julián Gianoglio. Evidence shows that both were born on the same day and in the same place, Carmen del Sauce. They have the same identity.
 
The Inspector realises that solving this crime will mean solving the enigma of his own doppelganger.
     
The film is told as two parallel stories. The first shows the arrival of the first Julián Gianoglio, his close relationship with the town and the appearance of a love interest, up to the time of the murder. The second shows the arrival of the Inspector (the second Julián Gianoglio), investigating the murder and eventually solving the enigma he is caught up in.
